The intention of third Dissident Sound Lab EP was to put the disco-funk workouts to bed once and for all. I thought I was getting it out of my system. I still wanted the record to have a political theme though – and what goes better with 1978-inspired disco than a rant about free market economics and the military industrial complex? I mean, Bee Gees fans must secretly have a soft spot for Chomsky?
'The Grift Is On' does take the sound palette beyond the funky electric bass lines, glittering electric piano runs and unison string hooks with some typically agressive guitar work, but on reflection there is a bit too much pastiche.
