A collection from 2006.
These were called these ‘sketches’ as they were all largely or completely improvised. Even in West Running Brook, which obviously features a lot of other audio source material, that material was woven in amongst largely improvised material. Having been realised in one sitting or in a short space of time, the performances were preserved in that state, rather than being subject to a more artificial multi-track treatment. So the instrumentation and arrangements aren’t at all fancy, but just reflect what came out at the keyboard.
West Running Brook features the poem of the same name by Robert Frost written in 1928. Frost was recorded reciting it in 1956.
West Running Brook was released as a single under the artist name The River State. It is available on Spotify, Apple Music and other streaming and download services. And obviously it was a massive international hit.
